Hi,

I have a LACIE NetworkSpace 2 and have been using it for the best part of a year now... it's pretty good.

However, I've started using it a bit more now and have found that it is rediculously slow when copying files. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and solved it?

Today, I'm making a copying of a 60GB folder actually within the NS2 itself, i.e. original folder is called "Recovery" and I'm copying it to another folder called "Recovery - Copy".

Now, I know 60GB is a big size, but it's not copying across the network, so I can't see why there would be a problem! The 60GB is saying (though my Windows 7 laptop) that it's going to take 23 hours! The speed is showing 1.13MB/s.

Just to make sure I'm doing this correctly...
1. From my laptop I've browsed to \\NETWORKSPACE\Openshare
2. Right-click on the folder called "Recovery" and choose copy.
3. Right-click in a blank space within the Openshare folder and choose paste.
4. This has now automatically created a folder called "Recovery - Copy" and I have a window open showing me the remaining amount of time to copy, the amount of files, and speed.

Another scenario of slow speeds is when I connect a 1TB external hard drive to the NS2 and choose to backup the entire contents. This takes DAYS! I know it's USB speed, but come on!

Any ideas people?

Ooops... major flaw in my first post!

I think it's a NetworkSpace 1 not NetworkSpace 2 :?

When you copy from one share to another the data is copied through the network, so it has to be transferred twice. AFAIK the NS1 doesn't have a vendor supplied way to copy data directly between two shares, except the backup function which copies between internal and external disk.

However, it is possbile to get shell access, and do the copy action on the NAS itself. It is also possible to change the provided html file a little to do a webinterface backup action from one share to another, no matter if they are on in- or external disk. You should still not expect high transferrates (the NS1 is a rather limited device), but at least you can switch off your laptop during copying.
